Naming Ceremonies
People come into the world: their arrival should be marked in some way. But if you're not religious, a baptism doesn't have much meaning.
A Humanist naming ceremony is designed to acknowledge our responsibility as adults to all children, and enlists the guide-parents (or whatever title you fancy) as the child's and the parents' first port of call for help and support.
It aims to give everyone present the opportunity to express their love and wishes for the child's future.
Funerals and Memorials
Inevitably, people leave too. Humanists believe that this is the only life we get, and that immortality is that part of us that remains in the hearts of those whose lives we touched.
The focus of a humanist funeral is a warm and honest tribute to the person who has died, gathered from the people who knew them best.
A humanist funeral aims to be inclusive and culturally sensitive, showing respect for the range of beliefs that will usually be represented.
